The C-series
Surrounded by the ever changing ocean and skies of Siquijor Island in the Philippines sees the start of this body of work. Geometric shapes, the essence of everything, reflect purity, honesty and perfect balance for me I concentrate on the cube and rectangle in this series as opposed to my interest in the sphere in previous work. The C-Series is about belonging: I am exploring notions of identity, environment and personal relationships. I am curious about what these shapes are doing in the space they find themselves in and how they relate to each other.
Using texture and how we perceive it I investigate the polarities of weight and weightlessness, heavy and lite, solid and liquid, static and movement, soft and hard, three dimensional and flat planes. I invite viewers to enter into the dialogue of ambiguity with me.
On another level the series is also a love and seduction story investigating the idea of closeness and distance, intimacy and estrangement. I explore the tensions between comfort and security (what we know) and the freedom of adventure into the unknown and edgy.
